Bay Area natives art project

San Francisco Bay Area endangered natives art project using cut paper, scissors, and glue.

This is an art project exploring plants, insects, and animals listed as California natives. I am seeking out Marin natives. Many of the plants or small inhabitants are listed as endangered. In the Instagram feed I name each plant and give a bit of info about it, including its status. For those that are endangered often times the cause is the loss of habitat.

The artwork shown here is posted on an Instagram feed I created to participate in a 100-day event from April – July in 2017. During this timeframe, the art updates daily – most days :-). Black and white is my primary pallet. As the ‘medium’ I’m creating cut paper images with just scissors and a small addition of paint on occasion. I rarely do a sketch to follow, preferring to just use a reference photo and working it out as I cut. Creatively, this as an opportunity to explore the notion of ‘less is more’: how can I communicate to the viewer with a minimal amount of information.

All of this is the background of my entry into #the100dayproject. Follow me, 100dayprojectbw and share your thoughts. I look forward to our paths crossing.
